1. HENRY HINCHMAN: was born 10-20-1772 in New Jersey and died 9-1-1834 Mahoning Co., Ohio. Both bur Post Goshen Cem, Garfield, Mahoning Co., OH.
Henry married RUTH NEASMAN probably in New Jersey. Ruth was born 8-12-1774 in New Jersey and died 11-20-1852 probably in Columbiana Co., Ohio. She was the daughter of John and Mary Neasman. Members of this family were Quakers.
Sources for this family include History of Columbiana County, Ohio, 1879; History of Columbiana, 1905; and marriage and census records. About 1808, Henry settled in the NW 1/4 of Sec 36, Goshen Twp., Columbiana / Mahoning County, Ohio. He served as Justice of the Peace. Children named in county histories are John, Henry, Aaron, Hannah, Elizabeth, Grace, and Mary.
Search Light::[1] “Our Family Tree. The earliest account we know of the Hinchman family is that they settled in Hempstead and Jamaica, L.I., 1762. Later we hear of them in the states of New York and New Jersey.
“Henry Hinchman, Sr., of stern English Quaker descent, from New Jersey some time before 1812. Settled on the N.W. Qt sec. 30 of Goshen township, of Mahoning County, Ohio. Was born Oct. 20, 1772. Died Sept. 1, 1834. Married Ruth d/o John and Mary Neasman. She was born Aug. 12, 1774. Died Nov. 20, 1852. The are said to be buried at Post Goshen grave yard, but as many were buried in early times with out a date mark, the graves cannot be located. To them were born twelve children as follows: Hannah; Elizabeth; John; Grace; Allen; Mary; Henry; Ann; Ruth; Joseph; Martha; Aaron
Res: Henry and Joseph Hinceman were 1790 residents of Maryland. This may have been Henry Hinchman who settled in Columbiana Co., Ohio.

Aaron Hinchman was a newspaper publisher first in Goshen, then Salem, Columbiana Co., Ohio. He founded the Self-Examiner in 1842. According to Aaron Hinchman, editor and proprietor the “leading object of the Examiner will be to aid in restoring man to his proper station, that he may accomplish the end for which he was created.” The name was changed to Friend of Man. A short time later, Aaron became interested in the Village Register published in Salem, Ohio and moved there. In 1847, he became the sole owner and changed the name to the Homestead Journal. The newspaper “advocated the abolition of slavery and the conferring of homesteads by the government upon actual settlers.”
