Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little.
This site is an attempt to record what I've learned about our family history. In these modern times, families tend to be scattered
all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of the Hinchman Heritage Society and this web site is to help our
family stay connected even though we live far apart.
The Hinchman
Heritage Society was formally organized in Huntington, West Virginia the weekend of April 23, 1994. This organizational
meeting was attended by thirty family members from Kansas; Kentucky; North Carolina; New Jersey; Ohio; Texas; Virginia; and
West Virginia. The purpose of the society includes collecting, collating, preserving and disseminating knowledge and
information of genealogical historical and biographical nature; establishing and maintaining a central archive; and issuing
publications. A family newsletter - Chronicles - is published three times a year (fall, winter and spring)
by the Hinchman Heritage Society and Library, Inc. Membership in the HHS&L runs from June 1 to May
31 and is $20.00.
