Lydia – author Biographical Sketch of Charles S. Hinchman; Early Settlers of Nantuckett; and Recollections. Lt. Hinchman located a brook flowing from a cave on Lookout Mt. After the war, he and several partners formed the Mountain Spring Co. and sold water to the city of Chattanooga. Other business ventures included real estate; railroads; manufacturing; trolley lines; and finance. He helped organize the Pennsylvania Steel Co and in later years served on the board of directors of several Philadelphia banks. [source: Walter S. Hinchman The Only Paradise]. While in England, Charles and Lydia visited the Charter House School and the Earl of Clarendon’s home to view the portraits of Bishop Humphrey Henchman painted by Sir Peter Lely. A reproduction of a photograph of the Bishop’s portrait appears in Lydia’s book. Charles established a $1,000.00 scholarship fund at Berea College, Berea, KY in honor of his grandmother Eliza Webb Hinchman. His first cousin Eliza Webb Hinchman Yocum taught school at Berea. After that time she moved to California and taught at the San Jose High School for 25 years. … When Mrs. Yocum first came to Berea she was dean of the Normal school but later on desired to do teaching. Mrs. Yocum is well remembered by a number of Berea people who like to think of her as a “most lovable Christian woman, who lived her Christianity every day, and whose face shone with the beauty of it.” [Berea College, Berea, KY].
